USA Cycling Partners with Spot to Provide Affordable, On-Demand Coverage for Bike-Related Injuries

Spot Is First and Only Company to Provide Customized “On-the-Bike” Injury Insurance

COLORADO SPRINGS --- March 3, 2021 --- USA Cycling, the national governing body for the sport of cycling in the United States, today announced a new partnership with Spot, the tech startup offering subscription, on-demand injury insurance that protects everyone from athletes and adventurers to families at home. Cyclists who are enrolled members of USAC’s voluntary annual program or racing in any USAC-sanctioned event can now sign up for Spot for just $40 per year, or can sign up individually per event. Spot is designed to cover the actual costs of their medical bills up to $25K, if they’re injured while riding a bike anywhere in the U.S.

Spot is the first and only company to provide customized “on-the-bike” injury insurance coverage. USA Cycling’s partnership with Spot makes it possible for cyclists to focus on their injuries and comprehensive treatment they need to make a full recovery, without worrying about expensive medical bills. USA Cycling National Team members, National Champions and members are covered by Spot, including Cory Williams, Justin Williams, and Ayesha McGowan.

“We’re very excited about partnering with Spot to offer this groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind insurance coverage to our members,” said Bouker Pool, Chief Commercial Officer at USA Cycling. “The time, energy and money it takes to fully recover from an injury can be all-consuming. With Spot, we hope to take some of that stress out of the equation and instead offer peace of mind and safety for our community.”

Spot is fully digital, conveniently allowing customers to sign up in just one minute for immediate coverage at any time. Spot’s plan covers the actual costs of out-of-pocket medical bills, whether a rider has health insurance or not. Spot riders can get the treatment they need at any licensed physician, hospital, or urgent care clinic. Once riders receive their first bill, they can file a claim through Spot’s website by taking pictures of the bill on their phones, explaining how they were injured and providing a few other details. Tens of thousands of Americans are already covered by Spot.

“Partnering with USA Cycling on the first-ever on-the-bike insurance plan is an important milestone in Spot’s growth within the cycling community,” said Nabil Rahman, VP of Strategy and Partnerships at Spot. “Through this collaboration, we’re able to offer customized coverage to tens of thousands of cycling enthusiasts, removing the financial burden of injuries and allowing them to focus on healing and getting back on their bikes.”
